Graphic design of floor game for The Gurkha Museum
Recently I was commissioned by The Gurkha Museum Trust to create an educational game to interact with the public at outreach events.
I created a large format (2000 x 800mm) floor based game with “peel and reveal” flaps for up to 6 players.
Design of floor game
The design of floor game is based on a classic Snakes & Ladders type game but includes a range of questions about Gurkha culture and heritage with the answers hidden under flaps. The game is packed with interesting facts about Gurkhas in English and Devanagari (Nepali) as well as beautiful photographs and imagery.
Game Play
The game includes a set of six player tokens – each one bares the crests of one of the six Gurkha regiment.
Players roll a dice and move along the path encountering questions as the progress. Answer correctly and travel up the ladder. Incorrect answers slide down to a lower number.
The game is completed when a player reaches the end of the game.
Robust and tough material
The floor game is digitally printed, using UV safe inks, onto robust banner material . It is weather proof and wipes clean and will last many, many years.
In addition, the outer edge has eyelets so it can be pegged down for use in blustery weather.
Working closely with The Gurkha Museum Trust to shape the content of the game has deepened my understanding of the remarkable contributions and sacrifices made by the Gurkhas. Learning more about their dedication to Britain has been truly enlightening, and it’s been a real pleasure to be part of this project.
